The Bishop of Chelmsford has this evening asked that all church buildings in the Diocese of Chelmsford close for private prayer, and it is important that we comply. https://www.chelmsford.anglican.org/news/article/closure-of-church-buildings.
This is, of course, a very difficult decision to make, but it is important that we do so for the good of our neighbours, our community, and nation.
From 23rd March, therefore, St Leonard’s will not be open to the public for private prayer. We will continue to use social media as best we can, of course. All baptisms and weddings are suspended for the time being. All funerals will be conducted at crematoria or cemeteries.
The last few days have revealed that there are many ways that we can support and uphold each other in these remarkable times. Please remember that YOU are the Church – that WE are the Church. So let us continue praying earnestly, wherever we are, and let’s continue to make contact with each other as best we can, even if – for now – we cannot do so in some of the ways we have known until recently.
‘May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.’ Romans 15.13
Yours in Christ,
The Rev’d Matthew Simpkins
Priest in Charge.
