Welcome to the website of

The Parish church of St Leonard, Lexden, Colchester.

We are an Anglican church in the Diocese of Chelmsford. Our aim is to be an inclusive parish church, where Christians of many traditions can feel welcome. We hope, too, that those who are ‘seekers’, and curious to question and explore the faith, will feel welcome and accepted among us.

Following the success of the dramatic presentation of "The Lexden Chronicle", the DVDs of the show are now available to order. They cost £3 each and can be ordered from Andrew Lennard-Jones. The show has already made over £900 to be shared between the Childrens Society and Christian Aid, profit from the DVDs will be added to this total.

In 2006, we held two Alpha courses and another one in 2007. The next one is planned for Autumn 2008, although it is likely that this will be aimed mainly at church members. Alpha courses provide an opportunity to explore the meaning of life and are a practical introduction to the Christian faith. Each week there is a supper, a talk and opportunity for a discussion in a small group in a home in the parish. If you would be interested in any future courses please phone Wendy Allen on 01206 578051. If you would like to see what an Alpha course involves, please look at the Alpha national website.

For details, sketches and news of the new Church extension, click here. There is also a list of fundraising events planned for the year. The most recent event was the "Auction of Promises" on September 8th. This was an excellent and well attended event which raised over £4000.

Our ministry to the wider parish is important; and we strive to serve the local community of Lexden, and to be open and welcoming to those from within the parish asking for baptism, marriage and funerals. If you have any Prayer Requests then please feel free to submit them via the menu heading.

Please feel free to browse through our pages. The "About the church" section gives you the church address with a map. It also tells you a bit about the church building, the extension project and how the structure of the services. The Gallery section gives a great impression of church life, while the News pages have recently been completely renovated and are well worth a look. We hope that the activities section might give a feel for some of the ways in which we seek to be Christ's body (c.f. St Teresa's), here on earth. However, it is difficult to convey the vitality of a church following the living Christ on the pages of a website, so please feel free to come and visit us. You will be assured of a warm welcome.
