The Parish church of St Leonard, Lexden, Colchester

Welcome to our website. We are an Anglican church in the Diocese of Chelmsford. Front view of churchOur aim is to be an inclusive parish church, where Christians of many traditions can feel welcome. We hope, too, that those who are ‘seekers’, and curious to question and explore the faith, will feel welcome and accepted among us.

OUR NEW PRIEST IN CHARGE

Teresa WynneWe are delighted that the Revd Teresa Wynne is to be the new Priest in Charge at St Leonard’s.  She is presently Assistant Curate of the Parishes of Holy Trinity Takeley and All Saints Little Canfield.

Teresa is running those two parishes by herself during an Interregnum, so wishes to work a full three months notice before leaving them.

We anticipate a Licensing and Installation service in September, when we will all be able to welcome her to St Leonard’s.

Please keep Teresa and our parish in your prayers, and remember the parishes of Takeley and Little Canfield, as they say goodbye to her.

We are also very pleased to welcome the new Bishop of Chelmsford, the Right Reverend Stephen Cottrell. He is moving from his present appointment as Bishop of Reading. Details can be found on the Diocesan website.

The recent flower festival was a huge success. Massive congratulations to all who were involved. It has raised over £3500 for CYO. However, it's success was also in the numbers of people who took part in the preparations and also in the many people visiting the church, enjoying the hospitality and the events taking place. Photos are available in the July magazine.

Our latest (fifth) Alpha course has recently finished. Alpha courses provide an opportunity to explore the meaning of life and are a practical introduction to the Christian faith. Each week there is a supper, a talk and an opportunity for a discussion in a small group. Over the last few years, many people have either found faith or have experienced a strengthening of their faith through these relaxed, enjoyable and informal sessions. The course is open to both church and non-church members and if you would be interested in coming along please either email Jacquie Messinger or phone her on 01206 760742. If you would like to see what an Alpha course involves, please look at the Alpha national website.

We are delighted the new Church extension is now in use. For details and plans click here. In addition, there are photos in the gallery section. The new resource was dedicated by the Bishop in the morning service on 16th November 2008. Requests for bookings for the new facilities and the new rooms should be made to the Parish Administrator, Lynne Saint.

Our ministry to the wider parish is important; and we strive to serve the local community of Lexden, and to be open and welcoming to those from within the parish asking for baptism, marriage and funerals. If you have any Prayer Requests then please feel free to submit them via the menu heading.

Please feel free to browse through our pages. If you are unable to see the menu at the top of this page, click here. Under "The Church" heading, links take you to the church address with a map, along with a bit about the church building, the extension project and how the services are structured. The Gallery section gives a great impression of church life, while the News pages have recently been completely renovated and are well worth a look. We hope that the activities section might give a feel for some of the ways in which we seek to be Christ's body (c.f. St Teresa's), here on earth. However, it is difficult to convey the vitality of a church following the living Christ on the pages of a website, so please feel free to come and visit us. You will be assured of a warm welcome.

If you have any suggestions for content or other comments on what is here, please let me know through the feedback page. Thanks. Andrew L-J
